GEAR UP

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally-funded program designed to prepare students in West Virginia to pursue and be successful in their higher education goals.

GEAR UP at WVU:

This fall we are welcoming our first class of WV GEAR UP students to WVU! With offices based on the third floor of the Student Services Building, our goal is to ensure a smooth transition from students’ high school to college experience. Some of the academic support services available to all WV GEAR UP – WVU students will include success coaching, tutoring, and workshops, as well as social events to help student acclimate to their new home and give them a chance to connect and build community with other new Mountaineers from all parts of their home state.  There will also be opportunities for parent/guardian engagement each semester.

Summer Transition

Early Move-In

West Virginia GEAR UP is excited to offer an early move-in date for our students. The schedule is specifically designed to help you transition to college by allowing you to meet other incoming freshmen, learn about WVU and find your fit before classes begin. Early move-in will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. The cost for four nights/three days is under $150*, which includes a meal plan.

Special activities will include an Adventure WV outing, Graffiti Party Community Development and group advising/planning sessions with members of the West Virginia GEAR UP and Office of Student Success teams.

Please complete the survey to secure your spot!

*Price may vary based on housing choice.
